Between our boats and Homfray Lodge, Pacific Coastal Cruises & Tours is always looking for ways to be more environmentally friendly. Being an ecotourism company, our passion is exploring British Columbia’s coast and protecting it is just as important to us as any other part of our business.
What we do:
Pacific Coastal Cruises & Tours is Carbon Neutral! This year we have taken our environmental stewardship one step further. With the help of Wilderness International we’ve been able to identify our emissions and offset them by conserving the rainforest in our own backyard!
Wilderness International is a German-Canadian company that is passionate about protecting the earth’s remaining rainforests – and so are we. With their help, we are able to protect the forest just north of Homfray Lodge where the grizzlies, salmon, eagles, and other wildlife thrive. And we’ve protected it forever!
In 2018, we’ve offset 327,369.16kg worth of carbon emissions by protecting 3,124.05 m 2 of the rainforest in the Toba Valley. This year we are also going to be giving our guests the opportunity to protect the Toba Valley rainforest by purchasing parcels of land in both our gift shop or during their booking process.
As our company expands, we’re making sure we do so responsibly. In each year to follow we will continue to improve on our carbon footprint and offset the rest by protecting more of the Toba Valley rainforest.
Pacific Coastal Cruises & Tours is a proud member of the Commercial Bear Viewing Association (CBVA). The CBVA is committed to developing industry standards, including guide training, as they continue to research and learn about British Columbia bears and their environments. Pacific Coastal Cruises & Tours supports the CBVA by including a $25 conservation licensing fee in each Grizzly Bears of Toba Inlet booking. The surcharge is collected and ultimately directed to the grizzly bear conservation efforts via the Grizzly Bear Foundation. The fee is an opportunity to responsibility support conservation of grizzly bears.
