2021 Coastal Escapes - Gulf Islands of the Salish Sea

May - May

With daylight hours spent touring the coast and overnight in seaside village accommodations, you’ll enjoy complete island experience. The geology of these islands creates a fabulous cruising area. The Gulf Islands are made of sandstone that has been folded and uplifted until it protrudes out of the ocean, while the San Juan Islands are the peaks of sunken mountains. Although sitting on both sides of the border, the Gulf and San Juan Islands are so interconnected it feels like one big community.

2021 Coastal Escapes - Grizzly Bears of Toba Inlet

Sep - Sep

Experience the magnificence of the Grizzly Bears of Toba Inlet. Home to remarkable biodiversity and breathtaking scenery, Toba Inlet is one of BC’s best kept secrets. During the late summer and fall, majestic coastal grizzly bears can be viewed feeding on salmon and vegetation along the Klite River at the head of Toba Inlet in preparation for hibernation. This fall spectacle can only be shared by an intimate group of spectators as the local First Nations ensure there is minimal impact on the bears and their environment. The Klahoose First Nation have certified grizzly bear guides trained in the latest recommended protocol including how to minimize risk for both bears and humans. They are experts in interpreting bear behaviour and body language. Viewed from raised platforms along the river, these well-fed bears are tolerant of each other and participants. This is the perfect experience for those who want to unleash their inner adventurer. From wilderness accommodations and rainforests walks to grizzly bears and marine mammals, you’ll discover authentic wilderness at every turn.
